What is artificial intelligence: It refers to machines that have been trained in such a way that it has intelligence to perform tasks that usually required the presence of a human to be executed.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to play a significant role in our daily lives. It does not only have use in the business realm but also to the public. AI can give advice and make decisions based on a vast set of data that it can process and interrogate on the fly (Randieri, 2023). No human can come close to consuming the amount of information that AI can do and then provide instantaneous responses on request. Previously, if you needed information on a field or topic, you either had to make an appointment with someone who has knowledge on the subject, or you had to do comprehensive research to obtain the information you required. Now with AI you can gain that information instantly and from anywhere if you have a device that makes use of AI.
List of roles Artificial Intelligence can fulfil:
- Be your medical adviser (Nextech3D, 2023).
- Create designs and 3D models (Nextech3D, 2023).
- Automate the manufacturing of goods (Nextech3D, 2023).
- Personalise and optimise the education experience of a learner (Suk,2023).
- Find weaknesses and areas that need improving for employees (Nextech3D, 2023).
- Analise data and provide insight, patterns and suggestions (Nextech3D, 2023).
AI is not a replacement for humans. It has limitations like not being able to ponder on ideas and question things to eventually discover and create new knowledge. It also does not have a great understanding of abstract ideas like emotions, freedom, justice and anything else that is not bound by logic and number crunching. The real benefit of AI can only be realised when it works together with humans and not on its own. It is meant to be an assistant to humans and not a replacement (Randieri, 2023). People will have to learn how to work with it otherwise they will be replaced by someone who can effectively utilise this new technology.
My take on Artificial Intelligence and its role in the future.
Artificial Intelligence has a big role to play in our future, but fully replacing humans is not one of them. AI is meant to compliment humans and not take over their jobs. Although some jobs may become obsolete, most jobs will still require human presence in some shape or form. Employees will have to become savvy users of AI otherwise they will lose their work. AI will not replace them but rather people who have embraced the use of this ever-growing technology. The public will always want human interaction for its better understanding of abstract concepts like emotions. AI would not necessarily pick up on emotional ques or know how to handle it appropriately.
